You don’t go too fast, You just set me free

April 11th, 2012

First off — Tonight! Our song ‘Untitled’ can be heard during the first episode of the new FuelTV show, Rip to the Tip. Then, on May 5th, we’ll again be heard on Rip to the Tip when ‘Green Eyes and Dream’ is played. The show airs every Wednesday at 8PM PST, 11PM EST. Don’t know if you get FuelTV? You can check the channel guide here.

Second — Next Thursday! We’re playing an awesome free show with Sleepy Sun and White Hills at the Garden Bowl, the bowling alley below the Magic Stick, in Detroit. Come out and help us pack the place! We’ll be kicking the show off at 10PM, so get there early.

We’ll have some posters that Eric Oppitz has screen printed for the show available, but if you can’t make it you can still get a poster from our webstore.

March 1st, 2012

We’re playing some shows over the next couple weeks leading up to some appearances around Austin playing a few cool parties that just so happen to be occurring at the same time as a large annual music festival. The first one is… Tonight! The awesome folks at New Fortune Records are having a label showcase at the Polish National Alliance as part of the 15th Annual Metro Times Blowout in Hamtramck, MI. Le Ren will be kicking things off at 9, followed by Passalacqua, us and then House Phone. House Phone and Passalacqua are also releasing a new split 7″ at the show, so grab a copy while you’re there.

Once we’re all Blown-Out, it’ll be time to pack up and head south. We’ll be swinging through The Drinkery in Cincinnati, OH on March 9th with Dead Beat Dolls and Perfect Norm before hitting the sun-drenched streets of Austin. There we’ll be playing three parties, the first one on March 13th at Guero’s Taco Bar, presented by fellow New Fortune Records artists The Boxing Lesson and Austin’s OVRLD music blog. We’ll be on at 6pm, so come by and let us serenade you while you enjoy dinner. Then, on March 14th at 1am we’ll be wrapping up Emerald City Limits at (or around) Spider House Cafe. Finally, on March 15th we’re at Tom’s Tabooley. We’re on at 3pm this time, so swing by early and check it out!

If you check us out at any of these shows, make sure you say hello!

Gonna have me some good friends around, Gonna have me some good times in town

January 10th, 2012

February 10th we’ll be celebrating the release of Spectra Spirit in Detroit, MI at the Magic Stick, in the Lounge. Besides sharing the night with our good friends (and awesome bands) Duende! and Bad Indians, we’re really excited to have Dead Leaf Echo from New York joining us. Dead Leaf Echo were just recently selected by Deli Mag (NYC) as one of the best New York psych/shoegaze bands of 2011. Admission for the show will be $8.00 and it is All Ages. See you there!

In other news, we’ve recently signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Ghost Town and we’re thrilled to be working with them. They are based out of LA and their roster includes great artists such as Ty Segall, Mirah, Sleepy Sun, Tally Hall, and Pelican. I think this means you’ll hear one of our songs in a Forever 21 commercial soon (No, it doesn’t).

The reception for Spectra Spirit so far has really been positive — thanks to everyone that has picked up a copy of the LP, come out to see us play, posted a review of the record, played us on their radio show or podcast, or just downloaded the free files and shared them with your friends. We really appreciate all the support and hope to keep the momentum going through 2012. The album has made a few “Best of 2011″ lists and tracks from it have received radio play not just in the US (2), but in Australia (2), France (2), Greece, New Zealand, and Portugal, and online from Beyond Beyond Is Beyond (East Village Radio), Stone the Show (Downtuned Radio) and Perpetual Winter Productions.

If you’re looking for options on where to purchase Spectra Spirit, our label New Fortune Records has copies for sale. Also, both of the albums are available at Entheo Sound Records, a cool new US-based online store that specializes in psychedelic records and art. Our first, self-titled LP is almost sold out, so make sure that you get your copy before they’re gone.

Finally, we’d like to take a moment to thank Yiannis at Sound Effect Records in Athens, Greece. We’ve sent so many copies of our records to his store that we think he may actually be using them to re-shingle the place. If you live near Athens, swing by the shop and check out the huge selection of our two albums (and a lot of other cool imports), or contact him for a mail order catalogue: 30 Zaimi Street 10683 – Athens, Greece.

Thanks again to everyone that has been checking us out and telling their friends. We look forward to a busy 2012!

I am the sun, I am the New Year

December 2nd, 2011

We’ve got a couple shows coming up around the end of the year for our friends in Southeast Michigan:

First we’ll be at Woodruff’s Bar in Ypsilanti, MI on Thursday, December 29th as part of Mittenfest VI, an annual benefit concert for 826michigan. We’ve hung out at the past few Mittenfests, so we’re stoked to finally be able to play. We go on at 7:30pm, but you should get there early – these shows sell out every year. Doors open at 4pm, music goes until 2am. Tickets are $10 at the door and all profits go to 826michigan, 21+.

Then we’ll be kicking off New Year’s Eve at The Magic Stick in Detroit with Detroit Cobras, K.I.D.S., and Amy Gore & Her Valentines. This will be our third time playing NYE at the Magic Stick, so it’s practically a tradition at this point. This will also sell out so, again, make sure to come early. Doors will open at 8pm, we go on around 9. Tickets are $15.00 in advance, All Ages.

Also, keep your calendars clear on February 10th for our Detroit LP release party / Psychedelic Supper II at the Magic Stick. More details (very) soon!
